Chapter 2

Save this new page as index.htm. Click File. Choose Save As. In the dialog box type index. Close and save the changes to this page.

It is now time to build the structure for the rest of your web. You could have used any one of webs the wizard supplies. but in this tutorial, we are going to build from the ground up.

Click on View in the menu bar, choose Navigation. We will now create our other pages.

Click on image to view a larger version.

This is a partial view of the navigation window. Right click on the Home Page pictured. Choose New Page. Do this three times to get started. These will be our first pages the visitor views when they come to our site. Rename these new pages to suit your needs. In this example we are going to name them: Navigation, Header, and Main.  Don't forget to name the home page index.

Click on the image to view a larger version.

These will be the first 4 pages our visitors see.  Four pages?  Yes, the funny looking frame is a page. It is your index page.

Another suggestion for your first 4 pages is: index, contents, banner, and home.

Return to Page View.

Open index.htm

Click Set Initial Page button, in turn for each of the 3 frames. On the left, the initial page is navigation. This frame will be used to navigate the site. It will rarely change. Though for very large sites, you may want to have multiple navigation pages for different groups of pages.
Do this for each of you initial pages.

You will now have 3 empty, white pages in your frames.

Close index.htm.

Let's make this a personal home page.  We will need these pages.

  • Photos of family and friends
  • Favorite links
  • Affiliate pages
  • Introduction (Main page)
  • Favorite graphics.

We can now return to navigation view and have these pages created for us. Even though we will not be using navigation view to create our links for our site (as with shared borders) it will help us to visualize what we have on our site. I create these pages under main.htm
