Creating a Framed Site

Many people are using frames as a way of easing navigation and defining their site's design. In this tutorial, we will build a site using frames.

Start by creating a new web. In this example, we are going to use an empty web. When the web opens, there will only be an index page, images folder and the necessary FrontPage folders.

Delete the index.htm page.

Click File, New, Page. (Click to see larger, clearer version.)

The above dialog box will appear. Click on the Frames Pages Tab.

For our example site, we are going to use the banner and contents frames page. You will notice in the Preview the page is broken into 3 sections: a header, main body, and the left frame, commonly used for navigation.

To choose your frames style, just click on the assorted styles listed. The one we are using is highlighted in purple in the top left corner, and the style is previewed on the bottom right preview pane.

Click OK.

And your frames page based web site is started. This is how it looks... (Click image to see a larger version.)
