Starting Your First Web
The first thing that must be done is decide on the content, then the basic
structure. When I started building this web, I knew it was to advertise our
services; site and graphics design, I knew there would be a help section, a
few advertisements, and an assortment of links to other sites.
After you have decided on the basic idea of your site, the
basic structure will be created by the FP wizard.
Let's get started.
Open Front Page.
To access the first of the wizards, click File in the menu bar, then New,
then Web.
This dialog box appears.
(I remade this dialog box from a screen shot, it is very
close to the original, but you may notice some subtle differences.
Click on the image to see a large
version.)
Before you opened FP, you had made a decision about what kind
of web presence you want. Of the eight choices above, one will come fairly
close. Remember, the web can be modified to make it completely your own.
Click on the site of your choice, a description will appear on the lower
right. When you have the correct web chosen, choose the location on your hard
drive that you want to store it. The default is in "My Documents\My
Webs". Add \name web to the text box on the drop down.
If you do not add \name web, it will be assigned a number,
starting with 1. Click OK. You can cancel at any time and start
over.
| I strongly suggest that you create your new web in a
location other than the default. Put it in a folder on your desktop.
Later, when you are a more advanced user and want to modify things, you
will be able to if you can access certain folders. If you do this, be
sure to allow FP to add folders to your web. |
The web wizard will now show up and ask you questions specific to your
site. Remember, if you are unsure, it can always
be changed later.
Your web will be created, and open in tasks view.
