The Include Page Component
Insert component: Include Page

We've had many questions lately about how to use the include page component, and what it might be used for?

Here is an example of an include page:

Here is a link to view the page as it really is: View the Page
It'll open in a new window, so all you need do is close it to return to this tutorial.

As you can guess, using the include page component will allow you to change content on a number of pages at one time, without updating ALL of those pages individually. Just create a new page, with the same name, or update the current one.

Many folks have made the remark that it is just like shared borders, and yes, it can be much like a shared border. BUT! The include page allows you to put the "shared" content anyplace on the page!

Do you like to rotate your advertisements? Include page will do it for you.
Do you like to change images for holidays? Include page will do it for you.

How to Use Include Page

First, you must create the page you want to include. The content can be as large or as small as you want, just remember, it will be included on another page.

After you have created your page, you must create an area on your existing page/s for it to be called to.

I like to provide a table, or cell in a table for the included page. Place your curser where you want the included page to be, Click on the Include Component in your tool bar, choose Include page, and browse to the page you have created. Click OK. That's all there is to it!

Changing Pages

When you have a number of pages you want to use to rotate between in your include page area, give them all identical names, with the inclusion of a letter or number. Example: include_page.htm will be the page currently in use. Others will be named include_page1.htm, include_page2.htm, etc. When you want to change pages, simply rename the current page in use to include_page3.htm (or whatever the next unused number is) and rename the "new" page to be included "include_page.htm.

Publish your changes.

Tips

  • The pages to be included should be in the same web as the host page/s.

  • Be sure to remove shared borders from the pages that will be included.

    • When you are creating the include page, open Format | Shared Borders. Change the radio button from all pages to current page and unclick all shared borders in use.

  • An include page will display it's own background color. Size your table or cell to benefit your sites design.

  • Give the table 0 border size, this prevents your include page from looking like it doesn't belong (as above). OR Give it a border size 1 to make it stand out. Example

Scheduled Include Page

The schedules include page component (see top of page) works just like the Include Page component except you choose when you want the page to appear.

As in the case of advertisements or images, you can choose the include page to run up until a specific date, what to run during the specified time period and what to run after that date.fewer last minute updates.
