Data Bases
This tutorial will not help you with complex data base
creation or management. It is for a simple flat-file data base. If you need
assistance with more complex applications, please send an email, we would be
happy to help you, for a small fee. Or, you can buy the book. Sorry
Data bases can be quite complex and time consuming, free can only go so
far....
The first thing you need to do is create the form you want to
use to collect the information. You can use the "forms" tutorials
for that. You will return here after you have finished Chapter 3a.
Right click on your form, you
will choose "Form Properties"
When the first dialog pops up, you will click
in the radio button labeled, "Send to Database."
Then click the Options button.
This is the dialog box that will pop up.
Click
it to view a larger version.
Click the Create Database button.
It will take a few seconds, then you will see this alert-type
box.
Click
it to view a larger version.
This box will tell you the location of your database. It will
be complete, to include all of your form fields.
You may have to save your form as an ASP (.asp) instead of
.htm (.html.)
To do this: Click on File. Choose Save
As:
Type in the name of your form as your would while saving any other page. Then,
in the drop down (that usually has Web Pages showing in it) and choose
Active Server Pages. Click Save.
