Copying Files to Your Server
Chapter 1

Front Page comes with a wizard to help you publish and update your site.
Publishing your site is copying the various files from your PC to the net. Front Page can publish to the Internet or to an Intranet. This tutorial will explain how to upload your web to a server with the FP Extensions installed. The FP Publishing wizard uses HyperText Transfer Protocol, or HTTP.

Benefits of Publishing with Server Extensions Installed.

  • All of the FP features will be fully functional.
  • FP will update all files, including any changed links when you upload.

If you do not have the FP Extensions, please see the tutorial on FTP, or File Transfer Protocol.

There are times, even on first upload that you may not want certain files to be uploaded. FP will not publish those pages with just a quick right click.

In Folders View, Right Click on the page you do not want to upload. Choose Properties. Select the Workgroup Tab

Click on image to view larger version.

Click on the Check Box at the bottom, "Exclude this file when publishing the rest of the Web." The various options available on this dialog box are also available in "Reports" and "Tasks."

If you have created a guest book, or other file which is intended to create a "history," you will not want to upload those pages a second time, as you would loose all previous entries.

After you have decided which files to upload, you are ready to continue.
