When you go to the search engine add URL page, you will very likely see a link to get your page indexed more quickly. This may be a very good idea, and for many sites, not at all expensive. But, for the small business or small informational site, such as this. It is a notable expense!

I have noticed that paying this fee only gets your site indexed in a short period of time, it does not guarantee ranking! What's a small business or informational site to do?

List with the search engines, but don't rely on them. You will likely never rank in the top 10. Oh! NO! I don't mean don't try! You MUST try! Just don't loose heart if you don't make it right away, you must continue to try if your site is to be successful.

What to do?

Find as many sites, similar to yours and request reciprocal links. Links that do not bury your link deep in their site and require you to put a link on your home page. Think about it, that IS NOT reciprocal. That is free advertisement for the other guy!

I feel like I've been too negative.

I get a lot of questions from individuals who are concerned because their new site isn't listed. The sad fact is, even though your site WILL EVENTUALLY be indexed, getting that top 20 ranking is almost impossible!

I have have been working towards a decent ranking in the search engines for a l-o-n-g time. I have not achieved it...yet. When I type in my exact name. Web Designs -4- You, I get everything BUT my site. When I look at the meta tags the top sites have, I do not see why THEY HAVE achieved the top ranking.
